AREA SABHA CAMPAIGN

Area Sabha is a constitutional space designed to bring democracy closer to the people, enabling residents of a neighbourhood to collectively discuss local issues, question governance, and participate in decisions that affect their everyday lives.

Yet in most urban areas, Area Sabha exists only on paper.

This campaign was initiated to reclaim Area Sabha as a living democratic practice, not a forgotten policy.

Why Area Sabha Matters:

Area Sabha provides a framework where people can:

Participate in shaping their
neighbourhoods

The community itself drives the design, direction, and growth of the campaign.

Each location, conversation, and action is shaped by the people who participate.

A People-Led, Community-Driven Campaign

The community itself drives the design, direction, and growth of the campaign. Each location, conversation, and action is shaped by the people who participate.

Art as a Medium of Participation:

To make Area Sabha accessible and engaging, the campaign uses street theatre and folk art forms as tools for dialogue and awareness through:

  • Street plays
  • Puppetry
  • Songs and storytelling
  • Public discussions

People are invited not just to watch, but to participate, question, and reflect.

Art helps break barriers of language, literacy, and fear making democracy something people can experience, not just hear about.

This movement belongs to the people.

The Area Sabha campaign is already active on the ground and continues to grow through collective effort. It is a space for learning, dialogue, and shared responsibility where democracy is practiced together.
